Balance.

I think about it a lot.

The Boston Marathon was yesterday, and the winners are in the top 0.001% of all runners in the world.

That requires an un-balance.

But at their age and state in life, it’s manageable. Probably well worth it. Probably makes them happy (I hope).

For me, at my age and stage in life, balance is all about deciding what percent I want to be in.

My fitness level is probably at the 1% level. I crushed the Murph last year, ran a National class mile, completed 6 years of working out every day, and more.

I fit this in without too much hassle. Did well in my job, had plenty of family time – was happy. Was in, what I consider, a balanced state.

But I left a lot on the table, fitness wise. With more effort I know I could push pass the 1% … get in the 0.1% circle or better. But that would require a shift to an un-balanced state that I’m just not willing to do right now.

Why? Well – that’s for me to unpack – and it gets complex. We’ll save that for another day.

The lesson that I remind myself of is this – what percentage do you want to be in? What level of un-balance are you willing to be in to get there? Will it be worth it? Will it make you happy?

What does balance mean to you?
