Our August 2024 Iron Ager of the Month is Gene Meade.
Gene loves working out, and enjoys the way it makes him feel.
He tries to get some form of exercise in every day, usually consisting of running, rucking or kettlebell work. In fact, Gene recently set a PR for single arm kettlebell presses – at 32KG. Nice!
This Fall Gene plans on doing a GoRuck or Spartan event. He also plans to be at the Marine Corps Marathon, as two of his athletes will be running (Gene has been a running coach for over 15 years).
Gene’s advice to other Iron Age Athletes can be summed up in his favorite quote, “Anticipate the difficult by managing the easy.” – Lao Tzu. The quote is something that helps Gene stay on track and focused – if he is squared away in his daily routines and disciplines, then he is in a better position to deal with adversity if it arises. This carries over into his training … preferring to stay ready rather than having to get ready!
