As of today, I have exercised 1,242 days in a row. And don’t plan on stopping anytime soon.
To be honest, I didn’t plan on doing this. It just kind of happened. Back in December of 2018, a buddy and I were reviewing our workout logs and noticed we had a few weeks in a row with no rest days.
Hmmm. Interesting. We immediately wondered if we could go a whole year without missing a day. And without even thinking about it, just kind of agreed to give it a shot.
And here we are, 1,242 days later – and neither one us is going to be the first to miss a day. We even dragged 3 others into the mix – and now we all have some pretty impressive streaks going.
Two things we discovered along the way:
- 100% is easy. 90% is hard. Not a new concept, but until you try it, you might not believe it. It comes down to this – we are exercising every single day. No matter what. No excuses. No second chances. You miss a day and you’re out of the club – so to speak.Once we had the mindset of everyday – it took the decision making out of it. It took the excuses out of it. We didn’t get to skip a day because we were traveling, and then skip another day because it was raining out. You do that enough and the days off start becoming more than the days on.
Basically the pressure was off. We didn’t have to think about it. Didn’t have to think about which days would best fit our schedule. Didn’t have to think about anything. We just were going to fit it in one way or another.
Once the decision making was taken out of the equation, and that mindset was adopted. It’s been pretty easy to make it work.
You might have to get up at 3:00am and jog around the hotel for thirty minutes on a crazy travel day – but the amazing thing about it is – that just becomes the norm. Find a way. Get it done. Check off another day.
- The second thing that we discovered was having a small group in this together was a powerful driving force. The accountability factor is real and without it, I’m sure I would have quit this streak long ago.But because we are in this together – because I’m not letting these guys down – I’ve found ways to get something in, even if its a death march on the treadmill when you’ve got the flu.

Try it with something. You might be surprised that its easier than trying to do something 5 days a week
