Lessons from Lionel Richie

I don’t know much about Lionel Richie, and wasn’t expecting much from his appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience, but he was dropping some wisdom nuggets right from the start.

Here are a few:

You can be wildly successful – and be scared to death every step of the way – especially as you encounter new experiences. A good reminder that not every successful person floats through the journey with confidence. In fact, usually it’s just the opposite. Everyone is scared, fearful and experiences new things along the journey. It’s plowing through them in that state anyway is what leads to success.

When some people hear tapping, they hear music. A good reminder that not everyone hears and sees things the same way. When I hear someone tapping their pen on the table, I hear tapping. Others will hear the foundation of a new song.

In fact, I was just leafing through Ray Dalio’s “Principles” last night and he said something along the same lines …. be aware of your blind spots by being radically open-minded. Seek out and learn from others who see things differently than you.
