Listening to the Rich Roll podcast during the drive into work this morning – and his guest, Chip Conley, had an interesting quote – “If you only play the games you can win, your sandbox gets very, very small.”

This was in reference to our personal lives, mainly those in midlife, who are less inclined to try new things – for many reasons that he gets into. A lot to unpack there for sure.

But this certainly applies to our professional lives as well. This is why companies innovate, or explore adjacent markets – activities that increase rates of failure, among other things.

Just another good reminder for this Monday morning – that if you are afraid of looking bad – you will end up being bad. Break that cycle of fear. Try something new. Be a beginner again. Be bad at something for a while.

That’s how we get good.
