Some lessons/reminders from last week….

1.     Continually put yourself in position to NOT be the smartest person in the room.

I had the opportunity to meet with two outstanding consulting partners last week – and it was clear these two were brilliant on many fronts. It was also clear who was not the smartest person in the room. But … I was smart enough to know what I needed help with, what questions to ask, and when to shut up and listen.

And no, I didn’t feel stupid.

I felt energized and excited to be in the room. The conversation was great – as was the learning opportunity.

2.     Keep your inner circle small – and filled with the right people

I had the opportunity to meet with a former colleague and friend last week – who always leaves me thinking … in a good way. Again, the conversation was great – especially when you can be honest, vulnerable and your true self. That is when the connection becomes a catalyst for possibility.

After our meetings I always find myself exploring the good things, the possibilities, and being my best self.

Get someone in your circle who can bring that out of you – and maybe you for them.

3.     Work with people you like, trust and admire

Last week I also had the pleasure of meeting with a marketing partner who happens to share a similar fitness lifestyle. He mentioned wanting to run an Ultramarathon – and instead of finding an event to do himself – he is in the process of creating an event to raise money for charity, and to help local teams build character and culture.

I left that meeting with a renewed faith in humanity so to speak – that this person is one of the good guys. These are the people I want to surround myself with and work with.

It was a good week.
