Shrink Your Ego
This phrase/concept caught my attention this morning, listening to a podcast with Michael Pollan – as he discussed his new book, “A World Appears: A Journey Into Consciousness”.
He talked about how just being in nature, or seeing a master work of art often has the effect of “shrinking our egos” – making us feel smaller in our awe.
Egos are dangerous and necessary, to some degree, as they definitely help get things done.
But being aware of your ego – and taking every opportunity to shrink it – sounds like a really healthy thing to do.
Even if it’s just asking for help, or listening to other ideas.
When you take the opportunity to purposefully shrink your ego – you are opening yourself up to input (of any kind) that helps you learn, or grow, or think differently.

Any day when a little nugget stands out for further exploration is a good day.
